Did Lizzo Quit Her Career as a Musician?

The world of social media can truly be a cruel place. We’ve seen countless stories of individuals being bullied via hate speech. This includes enduring unfathomable language courtesy of faceless people hiding behind keyboards, as well as accounts purported to be real people. Celebrities are not exempt from this behavior, either.

One artist knowing all about this is Lizzo. The Grammy Award-winning musician exploded over the last few years with her tones of feminism, female empowerment, and upbeat pop music. Classically trained as a musician, Lizzo pairs her stylings on the flute along with her vocal talents.

In the process, she’s become one of the most critically acclaimed artists in the industry. Being quite vocal/active on social media, Lizzo has borne the brunt of criticism and disgustingness from many on social media — often critical of the artist’s weight. This — along with a host of other things — reached a fever pitch earlier this week.

Lizzo released the following statement on her personal Instagram account:

“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it. I’m constantly up against lies being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look…my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this sh*t — I QUIT.”

Clearly, this is a very strong statement by the native of Minneapolis. We’ll have to wait and see as to whether this means the end of her musical career. It would be a shame considering how young Lizzo is, along with the positive impact she’s had on millions of people around the world.
