Kendrick Lamar Teams Up with ‘South Park’ Creators for New Comedy Film

As reported by Variety earlier this year, Kendrick Lamar and longtime partner Dave Free are set to release a new comedy film alongside South Park creators Matt Stones & Trey Parker, set to release in the summer of 2025.

Recently, a social media video has emerged of the legendary rapper filming the live-action comedy in Pomona, California. The video shows a film set with a large white screen, with subtitles calling it a ‘musical’.
Details surrounding the project, including the extent to which Lamar will be involved, are still largely under wraps. The concept of the film was first announced three years ago.

According to an official synopsis, the film is described as a ‘slave-comedy’ and will “depict the past and present coming to a head when a young Black man who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his,”

The script received high praise from Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins, saying it is “one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read and it’s certain to create some fireworks” at Comic Con this year.

Due to the relative amount of secrecy outside of what we know already, there is little information on other cast members who will feature in the upcoming film. Since production has begun, we could expect more information to come out in the coming weeks and months leading up to its summer release.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker are the mater minds behind the legendary hit comedy show South Park. They are also known for their works such as Team America: World Police, The Book of Mormon, and South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. The duo has also worked with Lamar in the past on the music video “The Heart Part Five”, working on the technology that morphs Kendrick into famous figures like Kobe Bryant and OJ Simpson.
