The truth is, nobody can do it like Miranda Priestly does.
Disney has reportedly began development for the sequel of the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada. This sequel will see the coveted return of Miranda Priestly, made famous by her icy cold demeanor and sharp, witty lines that a fashion magazine editor would require. She was alongside her two busy but sweet assistants, Andrea Sachs and Emily Charlton.
Whether or not the original cast members will return to reprise their roles remains to be seen. Meryl Streep is heavily rumored to return to her role as Miranda Priestly. Emily Blunt has similarly been reportedly marked for a return to her character Emily Charlton. Anne Hathaway has not been confirmed to return as Andrea Sachs. When previously asked about a sequel, Hathaway apparently said “It can’t be done.” The film’s production team includes original producer Wendy Finerman and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. Safe to say, the direction of the film sequel will be in good stylistic hands.
Reportedly, certain plot details have already been revealed according to E! This sequel will focus on Miranda Priestly as the central plot character (although, one could argue that she inadvertently became the central plot character in the first film!). Her magazine company has experienced a decline since its heyday, and the people who helped her the most now need to help her again. Her old assistant, Emily Charlton (Blunt) is now an executive at a luxury group and has advertising dollars Priestly desperately needs to revitalize her magazine.
The original film was based on a 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger, who tells the experience of a woman working at a fashion magazine, and all the trials and tribulations that come along with it. The decision to adapt the book into a film was a roaring success, earning more than $300,000,000 at the box office worldwide. Streep received a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy, while others received Academy Award nominations.
