25. “You Lose, Good Day Sir!” – Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
In 1971’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, the line “You lose, good day sir!” delivered by Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka was a scripted line. What was improvised, however (and what ultimately made the scene stand out), was Wilder’s furious tone and abrupt delivery. This loud, unexpected outburst left Peter Ostrum, who played Charlie, genuinely shocked and added a more authentic layer to the scene. Wilder’s ability to seamlessly shift from whimsical to enraged was what made him such a legendary actor.
