‘Freaky Friday 2’ Release Date Has Been Announced

Get ready to to have the most interesting Friday of your life… again.

The second Freaky Friday film, Freakier Friday, will officially be released on August 8th, 2025. Disney took to their official X account to make the revelation, alongside a new photo which gives a nod to the original film. Of course, Disney didn’t miss the opportunity to announce the film on Friday, October 11th.

“TGIF. 😱 😱

#FreakierFriday arrives in theaters August 8, 2025!” Disney wrote on their X account.

They also shared a photo of main leads Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan side-by-side, screaming with their hands on their face, presumably after the realization that they have switched bodies yet again.

The original Freaky Friday was a 1972 children’s novel of the same name, where the book tells the story of a mother (Tess Coleman) and daughter (Anna Coleman) who awaken to find themselves completely swapping bodies, leading them to live a comical yet emotional journey. The book was then adapted into a 1976 film, which starred Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris. For her acting performance, Harris won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

In 2003, a remake starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan hit theaters and grossed over $160 million worldwide, far surpassing the success of the original film.

An official plot synopsis of Freakier Friday says the film “picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”

This sequel will be directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night; The High Note) and will be joined by producers Andrew Gunn (who produced the original Freaky Friday) and Kristin Burr (Cruella).

Freakier Friday 2 will arrive in theaters on August 8th, 2025.
