News Released on Highly Anticipated Joker Sequel

Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of Arthur Fleck in the 2019 hit film Joker garnered critical acclaim. Set in somewhat of a dystopian society, the film was the backdrop for several themes beautifully illustrated by the entire cast. One of those prevalent touchstones happened to be mental health.

While the movie was a bit grimmer than most in the ‘superhero’ universe, Phoenix’s Joker was an antihero — and a performance that people both cheered for and were astonished by.

As we fast-forward five years, a sequel film to the original has been in the works. We’ve seen bits and pieces of it start to trickle out. Most of the hype centers around the reported addition of Lady Gaga to the cast as Harley Quinn. The movie is also said to be a musical.

On Tuesday morning, more news was released courtesy of Warner Brothers. Titled Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel is said to be coming to theaters on October 4, 2024. Even more exciting for fans of the first film, an official trailer will be released on April 9th. Todd Phillips is back to direct the second installment (which he also co-wrote).

Reportedly joining the cast are the likes of Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Steve Coogan. Zazie Beetz will also be back to reprise her role as neighbor Sophie. The fact the film is being billed as a musical is an interesting choice. The decision to have music be the core of the film may add a bit of levity to the storyline.

Or, it could in turn continue down a darker, bleak path where the musical talents of Lady Gaga are presumably highlighted. Either way, this will be one of the most highly anticipated films to debut this upcoming fall.
