When it comes to being “ready or not,” it appears Lauryn Hill and the Fugees aren’t. Their much anticipated U.S. tour has officially been canceled.
On Tuesday night, tour dates were removed from booking sites and apps, prompting a notification for fans who had already bought tickets that they will receive a refund soon, according to Variety. The cancelation came just three days before the tour was supposed to start in Tampa, Florida.
As of now, no explanation has been given for the reason behind the cancelation. According to reports in Milwaukee, ticket sales have apparently been going poorly for the American Family Insurance Amphitheater show, with 75% of seats still available for purchase just a few weeks prior. Tickets are still on sale for the U.K. and European legs of the tour.
This isn’t the first time Lauryn Hill and the Fugees have controversially canceled or postponed their tour. In fact, this is the third consecutive year that they have done so. Hill, at this point, has built a reputation for infamously being unable to carry out tours and performances — often arriving late to her shows and cutting performances short.
This tour was billed as the anniversary tour of the legendary Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album, which Apple recently claimed was the #1 greatest album of all-time, according to their rankings. This tour was announced partly as a replacement for shows that were already canceled last November, where Hill said she was unable to perform due to “vocal strain”.
Before the 2023 tour was called, Hill went viral for a long speech at her Los Angeles performance at Crypto.com Arena, where she said “Ya’ll are lucky I make it on this stage every night,” before criticizing the music industry.
All tickets purchased for the tour will be completely refunded at the point of purchase.
