‘High Potential’ on Hulu may have only just begun airing, but it is already become one of the hottest shows around.
Per Variety, ‘High Potential’ saw a major viewership increase following its initial telecast. When it debuted on ABC on September 17th, 2024, viewership numbers hit an average of approximately 3.6 million, according to same-day and live data. However, it was when the show debuted on streaming websites that the viewership numbers skyrocketed. When accounting for Disney+ digital platforms (including Hulu), that number rose to approximately 11.5 million viewers — a 220% increase.
The show stars Kaitlin Olson, who is most well-known as Deandra Reynolds on the hit comedy show ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,’ which is about a rag-tag ‘gang’ of narcissists who run a dingy Irish bar in South Philadelphia, and all the antics that come along with it.
‘High Potential’ was written by Drew Goddard (The Good Place) and is based on the popular French series ‘Haut Potential Intellectuel (HPI)’. The show follows the story of a single mom (Olson) who has three children. She discovers an uncanny knack for solving crimes thanks to her photographic memory and sharp mind. This ability of hers leads to unusual partnerships with detectives. Rob Thomas serves as the showrunner and Alethea Jones (Fun Mom Dinner) serves as executive producer and director.
The show marks a massive success for ABC, as it is the first series since 2020’s Blue Sky to have a viewership debut this high. Hulu is also seeing major viewership approval, with the show taking the #1 spot on Hulu for three days in a row, starting September 22.
In addition to the large viewership numbers, the show has enjoyed favorable critical success. The series currently has an 86% average rating on Rotten Tomatoes among 14 reviewers (twelve ‘fresh’, two ‘rotten’)
